Empire of the Wolf
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Eighth Doctor’s debut!
Trapped in a parallel universe, Rose Tyler believed her adventures with the Doctor were over. Now, pulled by a mysterious energy into this reality, she must work with the Doctors (Matt Smith and Paul McGann) to end the tyrannical rule of the warmongering Bad Wolf Empress.
- Spoiler:
Rose Tyler #1 wakes from a dream in her flat. She has visions of a war brewing, and she explains the visions to her husband and father of her two children, the 10th Doctor. She theorizes the visions are somebody reaching out to her, and when she concentrates enough to make contact, she vanishes.
Rose Tyler #2 is Empress Rose and she awakes from a vivid dream of an earlier time in her life when she was part of a resistance fighter cell. When she recognizes something is amiss, she orders her robotic servant to find the Doctor and bring him to her.
The 8th Doctor is gallivanting around the timeline when he randomly lands in 20th Century London. Suddenly, temporal waves affect the surrounding area and he sees an army of Santarans approaching. Suddenly, again, he’s whisked away to track down the source of the temporal distortion, finding the source in a London suburb where he encounters Rose #1 asking for help.
Elsewhen, we catch up with the 11th Doctor making plans to take a restful holiday. His plans for quiet walks on the sand while sipping drinks with little umbrellas is rudely interrupted by a warring group of aliens facing off against the same legion of Santarans that appeared in front of the 8th Doctor in London. We conclude the issue with the 11th Doctor desperately convincing himself he’s not needed, a visit from a very short messenger, and the utterance of a recognized name.
- Spoiler:
Rose 1, the 8th Doctor, and the 11th Doctor, peeking in on Rose 2’s army as they make ready to conquer another world. Rose reconsiders her priority to go home when she sees another person who looks like her is leading an army for unprovoked conquest. The trio formulates a plan.
Later, Rose 2 walks the halls of her palace before her troops are ordered to proceed when suddenly, she’s kidnapped by the Doctors and taken aboard the Tardis. The 8th Doctor helps Good Rose sneak back to the Queen’s quarters so she can dress the part of Evil Rose to order her army to stand down. Meanwhile, the 11th Doctor takes Rose 2 to the worlds she’s previously conquered so she can see the devastation left in the wake of her good intentions.
The Eighth Doctor and Rose 1 (disguised as Rose 2) under arrest by D’Pau and his loyalists. Before they can be led away, the Eleventh Doctor and Rose 2 (now sorta okay Rose) arrive for a brief fight to save their allies. Before they can get too far, D’Pau and his Sontaran army lift off in a fleet of spaceships to begin their power grab.
The Doctors put their heads together and come up with a plan to send the Sontaran’s back where they came from, stop the attacking fleet, and send Rose 1 back home. All it takes is precision Tardis piloting, the element of surprise, and a lot of technical explanations that sound like they were made up. We conclude the issue with every in their respective Happily Ever Afters.
