Total Solar Eclipse '24
Thought this was an interesting connection. Added as point of conversation and 'bookmark' to the video [for follow up in 2024]
--------------------------
A total solar eclipse will take place at the Moon's ascending node on Monday, April 8, 2024, visible across North America and dubbed the Great North American Eclipse (also Great American Total Solar Eclipse and Great American Eclipse) by some of the media.
The Alamo City will see a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
San Antonians will experience a sky "as dark as a full moon night" for up to for four minutes and 24 seconds, Speck says. The time will be 1:32 p.m. Speck is sure the UTSA area will be blanketed in total darkness. Downtown San Antonio will miss the darkness "by a few blocks," she [Speck] says.
Speck says residents will finally get their time in the darkness in 2024. She describes it as an experience that activates all of your senses. Other living beings also respond.
"You can see stars, the planets. It also gets colder, because you just blocked out the sun," she adds. "Animals also react and plants too, so bees stop buzzing, cows will actually head home to the barn. It's a really interesting thing, it's something that you sense with not just your eyes. It's all sorts of sensors."

San Antonio, Hill Country in rare crossroad of two upcoming solar eclipses
*Mary Claire Patton, Digital Journalist

Texas, and more specifically some areas of San Antonio and the Hill Country, have the rare luck of seeing two solar eclipses within six months. The first is an annular solar eclipse on Oct. 14, 2023, and the second is a total solar eclipse, which will occur on April 8, 2024.
KSAT Meteorologist Justin Horne breaks it down:
“An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth,” according to NASA. “Because the Moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the star. This creates a ‘ring of fire’ effect in the sky.”
NASA explains that a total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. During a total solar eclipse, the entire sun is covered for several minutes making it appear dark outside.
During an annular solar eclipse the moon never completely blocks the sun, making it unsafe to look directly at the sun without eye protection designed specifically for solar viewing. There is a brief period during a total solar eclipse where the moon completely blocks out the sun making it safe for viewing directly, otherwise, special eye protection is required.
San Antonio is expected to see totality for several minutes during the April 2024 event.
The next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the contiguous U.S. won’t occur until Aug. 23, 2044.

Re: Total Solar Eclipse
What to know about solar eclipse 2024
The eclipse begins in Mexico, about 11:07 a.m. PDT, and then crosses over into the U.S. through Texas, about 1:27 p.m. CDT From there, the path of totality, which is approximately 115 miles wide, extends northeast, crossing through 13 states. In the U.S., totality will end in Maine, but the eclipse will eventually enter the maritime provinces of Canada. How does a solar eclipse work?
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting its shadow on Earth. The shadow comprises two concentric cones, a dark inner shadow called the umbra and a lighter outer shadow called the penumbra. Observers on Earth who are within the smaller, central umbra see the Sun completely blocked.A planetary alignment ?
During totality on April 8, 2024, Jupiter will appear about 30 degrees to the upper left of the eclipsed Sun while Venus will appear about 15 degrees to the lower right of the eclipsed Sun. Mars and Saturn will be next to one another about 35 degrees to the lower right of the eclipsed Sun.
Observers will have the unique opportunity to witness the alignment of all the planets of the Solar System, along with the eclipsed Sun. Mars, Saturn, Neptune, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus will align in the firmament. In addition, there is the additional possibility of sighting the comet 12P/Pons-Brooks with ease, adding a luxury guest to celestial observation.
